On Tuesday, January 10, about forty police officers were mobilized to intervene in the cellars, halls and technical areas of buildings in the Fontaine d’Ouche district. The police asked the prefect to allocate an extra “stupid dog”.
Established as an “absolute priority” by the ministers of the interior and justice, the fight against organized crime in general and against drug trafficking in particular mobilizes the internal security forces.
After praising the “efficiency” of the police, gendarmes and detectives during his wishes, the prefect of the Côte-d’Or Franck Robine went to meet the officers on January 5 during a search for narcotics, this Tuesday, January 10, 2023 , in the Fontaine d’Ouche district.
About forty police officers coordinated by a commissioner
Commanded by a commissioner of the public security department of the Côte-d’Or, the operation mobilized “considerable resources” with 33 police officers from the specialized field brigade, the anti-crime brigade, the narcotics and the intervention department, as well as 7 municipal police officers from the city of Dijon.
Buildings were visited based on police surveillance and information sharing with partners, in particular boulevard Gaston-Bachelard and avenue du Lac.
Hall of the building, mailboxes, elevators, local garbage cans, cellars… the dog and his master have sorted out everything in the common areas. During the Prefect’s presence, only traffic lights such as pouches used to pack narcotics were found.
“The dealers make extensive use of social networks”
The prefect shared his surprise when he discovered that cocaine and heroin were often seized. A phenomenon that goes back several months. “Prices have fallen sharply,” explained the operation’s commander, “we find them systematically.”
“[Les dealers] move further and further away from the model at the bottom of the towers with a spotter and a dealer. We know they can sacrifice one or two small dealers to attract us and in the meantime they spend much larger quantities elsewhere,” added Bruno Gallot, head of public security in Côte-d’Or.
“[Les dealers] adapt to modern life. Just as it complicates investigations into other forms of delinquency, they make extensive use of social networks, ephemeral coverage to thwart police surveillance and complicate investigations by detectives,” he added.
When asked about their operational needs, the police officers indicated that an additional “stupid dog” would be welcome. “The dog is really an extraordinary search tool,” said the commander.
“Rotten the Business” and “Send the Thugs to the Shadows”
For the prefect, it was also a question of “thanking the police officers” who were “constantly” in action. In 2022, from January to November, 1,400 interventions were carried out in Côte-d’Or, leading to the seizure of 2 tons of narcotics – worth 21 million euros – and the arrest of 260 people.
“The fight against drugs has the highest priority because it fuels trafficking and money and makes all forms of delinquency possible. We must not let go, we must impede this kind of traffic. This is what the police do in their different parts,” said Franck Robine.
“We have to go up against professionals. There are two ways to respond. On the one hand, by taking a daily action, public safety will do that tonight. That is, by being constantly present, by disturbing, by rotting the case [de la drogue]. The other method is more judicial policing methods through deep investigation so as to steer [les] thugs in the shadows,” he added.
four or five points agreement Dijon has
“When we started to identify [les points de deal], there were about ten in Dijon. We now assume there are four to five that are very active because the others have been decommissioned, but they may be mobile,” said Franck Robine.
“The families that are left behind, it is rather the responsibility of the judicial police to send these people to prison. It is an action that is both long and daily, which is exhausting. I thank the police for doing this so efficiently,” the prefect insisted.
