The Brussels Motor Show is full of new electric products. Follow us on a visit to discover the Abarth 500e, Audi Q8 e-tron, Dacia Spring Extreme and Opel Astra Electric…
Are major auto shows over? No, some put up a good resistance, like the Brussels one. Open from January 14th to 22nd, the Belgian fair is full of brands. They are also present, or almost so (Mercedes is only missing in the big names). We almost got the impression of old times running around well-furnished pavilions, having become accustomed to visiting shows with a very light program, such as the recent Paris Motor Show.
If Brussels is an exception, it is because this show weighs heavily on car sales in Belgium. Not coming means risking losing customers! But the event is not centered on the Belgian market, it has a European scope. Hence, it is the stage for many world and European premieres.
If you live not far from the Belgian border, the trek is worth it. To inspire you, we went on a preview visit to show you the main new electrical products on show.
Abarth 500e

The first public outing of the Abarth 500e. You guessed it, it’s the sportier version of the new Fiat 500 electric car, and thus the first connected Abarth. Engine power increased from 118 to 154 hp. This may seem modest compared to the thermal Abarths, but the brand promises much better acceleration and thus unprecedented dynamism for the 500. Too bad the look isn’t more custom, even if the 18-inch wheels are lovely. The battery is 42 kWh does not move, the range will be about 300 km.

Audi Q8 e-tron

The first electric Audi model to change its name. We don’t say e-tron anymore, but Q8 e-tron, way to put it better in the range now that there are other electric SUVs at Audi. The front face evolves with a new grille that includes a light bar. This highlights the new Audi logo with flat rings. Restyling is above all an opportunity to install larger batteries in the gut. Depending on the model, autonomy increases by up to 40%. Thus, the Variant 55 with a 106 kWh (net) battery flirts with a range of 600 km.

Dacia Spring Extreme

Spring has come to Brussels with a new ending that replaces the level of expression. It makes use of some new style elements, such as abstraction with a topographical pattern and details painted in copper-brown. But the real change is under the hood: The Extreme has a new, more powerful engine: power goes from 45 to 65 hp. Enough to ensure better acceleration and recovery. There is no battery change, the range on the WLTP combined cycle loses only 10km, to 220km. This model costs 22,300 euros.

Lexus RZ450e
Long resisting rechargeable electrified models, Lexus clearly can’t stand the shift in the car market, especially in Europe. After setting a wheel in the electric market with a modern version of the UX, he launched the RZ 450e, his first custom-built electric vehicle. This is shared with the Toyota BZ4X. Requiring premium positioning, the Lexus boasts more power, at 313 hp (versus the Toyota’s 218). But the battery is the same, with a rather narrow capacity, 71.4 kWh. Thus, the autonomy is lower than that of the competition, with a range of just over 400 km.

Mazda MX-30 R-EV

World premiere of Mazda in Brussels. The manufacturer has created a new plug-in hybrid version of the MX-30, which so far has been 100% electric. The technical assembly is original: the 170-horsepower electric unit always provides traction on its own. But it is now linked to a rotary petrol engine that acts as a range extender. Thanks to the 17.8 kWh battery, you can do 85 km on 100% electric (WLTP mixed cycle), and then 50 liters of petrol add 600 km of autonomy. The MX-30 thus becomes even more versatile, with the 100% electric version limited to 200 km of autonomy.

While the Peugeot e-308 has yet to show itself, Opel has come to Brussels with the Astra Electric, which was unveiled as a world premiere. From the outside, nothing has changed, or almost because we still see new tyres, with an elegant air. Modernity is of course in the gut, with the new electric Stellantis block from 116 kW, or 156 hp. The total capacity of the battery is 54 kWh. According to the WLTP hybrid standard, the range is 416 km. The electric Astra will be offered as a sedan and station wagon.

Subaru Solterra
The Solterra is Subaru’s first electric model. Does it remind you of something? Normal, it’s almost a copy of the Toyota bZ4X. The Subaru version features the grille and shield.
