Better late than never: Suzuki just presented in Delhi its 100% electric concept called eVX planned for 2025.
Suzuki is one of the last Japanese companies to set itself on a 100% electric vehicle. It’s currently just a concept SUV called the eVX. It took time for the manufacturer to find the right recipe to get started. At the Delhi Motor Show, the brand has just presented its first electric car on January 11, 2023, which will go into production in 2025.
We would have liked the manufacturer to be bold by embarking on the small, still slightly exploited segment of electric city cars. The electric Suzuki Swift, or Ignis, could certainly be a hit in France and Europe. Let’s be real, however, it’s hard to enter the electric market with a small vehicle with low margins. It is best to target a segment of vehicles that is a little more comfortable and spacious for starting these new engines. Especially since this futuristic electric model will simultaneously target Europe and Asia, including India, which is a big market for the brand.
Towards the first electric SUV of the same size as the Suzuki S-Cross
Suzuki presents not only city cars in the catalog. On the contrary, the brand has many recognized references in the SUV segment: Vitara, S-Cross and Jimny. It is also a vehicle with a length of 4.30 meters, which is identical to the Suzuki S-Cross, which has just been presented in the form of a future electric SUV concept.

With its all-wheel drive expertise, Suzuki is expected to introduce a model equipped with all-wheel drive, reminiscent of the driving experience of other models of the brand.
What is surprising, however, is the design of this eVX concept. Suzuki is not used to offering us models with such muscular lines. This eVX is firmly geared towards something brand new, more firmly in the current trend. However, we will have to see what remains of it by its final submission in 2024 or 2025.
Few details on the technical characteristics of eVX
The Japanese company is not very advanced in the technical characteristics of its future electric model.
We know the dimensions of the concept: 4.30m long, 1.80m wide and 1.60m high. However, nothing is known about which platform this model will be used for. Will it be a platform dedicated to future electric vehicles, a platform adapted from a hybrid model, or a platform shared with Toyota? Suzuki already has two models shared with the other Japanese company. So it wouldn’t be surprising to learn that the two brands are partnering for another collaboration to introduce an electric model in less than 3 years.

We still know what battery capacity to combine: 60 kWh. A battery that should be enough to provide the versatility of this electric model, without weighing it down too much. 60 kWh for a 4.30 meter vehicle is the right compromise on paper.
The Suzuki also has a range of 550 km, but it is based on the Indian Approval Cycle (MIDC). It seems more hopeful than true. We would put instead a range of 400-450 km (on the wltp cycle) for a compact SUV with a 60 kWh battery. It looked more realistic.
In the meantime, we are glad to see that Suzuki is finally getting into the electric race, albeit later than even the other Japanese brands. But, if the brand can develop models that are still affordable, one of the pillars of Suzuki’s DNA, we are ready to wait until 2025. Then the brand will have to pass the second, if it wants to continue marketing vehicles in Europe.
