This R5 Turbo 3E is 25 centimeters wider than the Turbo 2 and is 2.02 meters wide, 4 meters long and 1.32 meters high. The wheelbase reaches 2.54 meters, and the weight reaches one and a half tons. The design of the front is characterized by a large shield with three air intakes, four square LED fog lamps and colored LEDs in pink and blue that can light up and flash. On the profile there are glass surfaces in pink plexiglass, while the rear has a huge spoiler. The aerodynamics are also enhanced by massive rims.

Even though the design of Renault’s new concept car pays homage to past glories, it’s meant to be functional. In particular, the manufacturer specifies that the air intake dug into the hood contains a hatch for charging the battery pack, which is located under the floor. The power is also set at 42 kWh. The autonomy is not specified, but Renault ensures that charging takes two hours on a 380V charger.

The new Renault R5 Turbo 3E, described as a real bombinette, has two electric motors, each linked to one of the two rear wheels. The total power is set at 280 kW, or about 380 hp for 700 Nm of torque. The Losange promises that the car will sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. The maximum speed is set at 200 km/h.

Mounted on a tubular chassis, this strict two-seater accommodates two Carbon Fiber Racing Seat bucket seats fitted with safety harnesses. These chairs with a vintage tartan pattern are made by specialist Sabelt. Drift car mandatory, the passenger compartment of the R5 Turbo 3E contains a vertical handbrake control integrated into a yellow center console, as do the exterior air intakes. Installed at the wheel of this Renault R5 Turbo 3E concept car, the driver has ten screens in front of his eyes, inevitably reminiscent of the ten analogue dials of the Turbo 2. These small widgets can display “graphic expressions” that Renault says are inspired by pixel art and glitch art. The inspiration of the video game is evoked by the driving modes, which are called “turbo”, “doughnut” or even “track invader”. A teddy bear named Drifty is even on board to “comfort the passengers who have been gripped by the power of the show car”. Of what deed.
