This €20,000 is the ceiling under which the Leapmotor T03 electric city car must be sold in France according to the importer, bonus is deducted. However, the drop from 6,000 to 5,000 euros in the latter will not prevent the market from expanding next February with more affordable city cars. In the meantime, this car can be spotted in preview this weekend.
Spacious for its size
In his test, Maxime Fontanier also highlighted the price as the main concern of this 4-seater electric vehicle with dimensions (L x W x H = 3.62 x 1.65 x 1.58 m) quite similar to those of the Fiat 500 (3.63 x 1.75 x 1.53 m) , Dacia Spring (3.73 x 1.58 x 1.51 m), Renault Twingo (3.61 x 1.65 x 1.54 m) or Volkswagen E-Up! (3.60 x 1.65 x 1.49 m). So, the Leapmotor T03 covers it all in height.
This car is first seen as a practical and welcoming machine that allows you to sneak into town and do your daily commutes. Behind a not-so-silly presentation, it offers a trunk capacity of 210 liters, and more by folding the seat in one piece. But also a relatively generous amount of space on board for passengers that we don’t necessarily expect.
The fixed panoramic roof with electric sunshades brings out this impression and brightness in the passenger compartment, without covering the entire roof. This allows the originality of the piton, the only option in the catalog for this car, for 490 euros. And so, with white, steel grey, powder pink, green and silver, the ceiling is black. As standard, the Leapmotor T03 wears an all-metallic blue livery.
Relatively light
With this city car, the weight is well contained: 1,203 kg empty, including 74 kg for the Heracles permanent-magnet synchronous powertrain that integrates the drive and transmission electronics. At peak power will not exceed 80 kW (109 hp), for a maximum torque of 158 Nm.
Which is more than enough to find relative dynamism in this electric city car, in the city and on the road, if you know how to settle for 12 seconds to reach 100 km / h from a standstill. With an LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry, this 350.4V – 104Ah Lithium Battery provides a total power of 41.3kWh. This makes it possible to obtain WLTP ranges of 280 km in the combined cycle and 417 km in the urban environment.
Get out of town
City dweller does not mean reclusive in the city. Even if it’s not the only one in its class to offer it, the Leapmotor T03 accepts direct current charging via its Combo CCS connector, up to 45kW of power. What you find in about forty minutes is 80% of the energy in the pack. This allows you to imagine mid-distance holidays from home, and even more if necessary.
On the other hand, to power the 22 kW AC stations it will be necessary to be content with 6.6 kW for the charger on board. It is not isolated: there are still models of the upper segments and in the premium end that do not perform better.
Always to conquer town, the Leapmotor T03 can spin at speeds of up to 135 km/h, and offers cruise control, albeit basic. We shouldn’t expect more in terms of driving aids to make the journey more comfortable.
However, this electric car has interesting safety devices as standard: 15-inch tire pressure monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, emergency braking and traction assistance, side start, ABS, ESP and headlights automaticity, etc.
Unique luxury finish
There is a Leapmotor T03 very soon available in France with one end called ” luxury. luxury On the dash, behind the leather-wrapped steering wheel, is an 8-inch digital display and a 10.1-inch Bluetooth touchscreen tablet compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (via the QD Link app) with GPS navigation.
Although it can only be folded manually, the outside mirrors are heated with an electrically adjustable mirror. The remote control is used to unlock the car, but also to operate the windows opening. Several storage spaces, cup holders, and power outlets (12V, USB) are part of the device.
