While electric mobility is thriving in the automotive world, most of your packages are delivered with a diesel car… As for utility vehicles, many are still powered by a combustion engine. However, in many cases, electrical utilities can reduce costs in use, while increasing convenience of use. What is certain is that there is no shortage of supply, as proven by Mercedes-Benz Vans, which crossed the threshold of 25,000 electric vans sold in 2022! In addition, its range will soon be completed by a proposal in the smaller segment, with the electric version of the Citan.
Full range of electrified utilities
Whether it’s for tax reasons, because their users are tied to their heat model or for some other reason… The truth is, the transition to electricity is slower here for utilities than for passenger cars. However, service drivers will also be affected by the upcoming ban on driving in certain cities with thermal vehicles. Fortunately, the entire range of electric utilities is growing rapidly!

Mercedes is therefore one of the brands that has taken the initiative to develop a range of fully electric trucks. Currently, Mercedes’ best-selling electric vans are the eVito and eVito Tourer, followed by the large eSprinter and luxury EQV. But from next spring, the first step on the platform can occupy a new “junior” utility vehicle. And that access model, of course, is the eCitan, the 100% electric version of Citan, the compact utility.
Electric, but above all practical

The eCitan has an electric motor with 90 kW (122 hp) and 245 Nm of torque. This motor draws its ions from a 45 kWh battery, which gives it a range of up to 285 km according to the WLTP standard, which is more than enough range for the average customer of this type of utility. With 75kW DC fast charging capability, you can charge it from 10% to 80% in less than 40 minutes! AC charging can be done at home or on the road at 11kW or up to 22kW.

It is therefore a completely usable, emission-free alternative, with the guarantee that you will be allowed to enter all Belgian cities for many years. In addition, nothing is lost in terms of practicality compared to thermal variants. For example, the large eCitan’s cargo space can still hold two Euro pallets and tow a trailer of up to 1450kg.

Already since … 2010
Mercedes-Benz Vans have a long history of electric trucks. The first 100% electric model dates back to 2010! It was the Vito E-cell, the ancestor of Mercedes’ current mid-range electric, and today consists of the eVito used by Hello Fresh, for example, for home delivery of meals, the eVito Tourer for passenger transport and the EQV, a luxury minibus. The eSprinter followed in 2019, and Mercedes-Benz Van will present an updated version of its large electric van in the second half of 2023.

Until then, be sure to check out the electric eCitan which, by the way, will also be available in a luxury EQT version and even as a 100% electric minivan. And with a bit of luck, your packages will soon be delivered to your home with zero emissions and in complete silence!
