Annual gathering of exhibitors from the world of tuning, the SEMA Show has just taken place in Las Vegas. Nissan took advantage of this colorful event, taking mechanics to the extreme, to showcase 6 spectacular concept cars derived from its electric, sport and off-road models. With these concept cars, they want to encourage owners to customize their own cars for even more fun. Two of these concept cars, the Nissan Sunny Leaf pick-up and the Nissan Ariya Surfwagon, are inspired by 100% electric models. With them, the brand wants to show that passion for cars can thrive in a more electric future. A future that goes hand in hand with the brand’s pursuit of 100% electric mobility accessible to everyone.
The Nissan Sunny Leaf pickup
The first of these 100% electric concept cars, the Nissan Sunny Leaf, is the result of a 1987 Datsun pick-up conversion. Tommy Pike, the boss of the TPC company who modified this vehicle. The car has the electric motor and lithium-ion battery of a Nissan Leaf. What gives him a real boost. Indeed, at 150 hp and 320 Nm, the Leaf’s engine delivers nearly twice the power and three times more torque than the Sunny’s original four-cylinder petrol engine. Also note that TPC kept the original 56A manual transmission.
A tribute to Nissan’s heritage and innovation
The rear axle rests on sturdy leaf springs. The front axle restores the ground connections of the Nissan 240SX S13. The reinforced suspension thus makes it possible to absorb the increase in weight and power. On the styling side we find the traditional widebody bodykit ” Hakosuka » Skylines. Furthermore, the Sunny Leaf has LED headlights, a custom speedometer screen, a handcrafted interior and 17-inch Rotiform rims. The historic Brock Racing Entreprise livery, which covered the Datsuns competition, also dresses the car. For Tommy Pike, it seemed like the perfect way to pay tribute to Nissan’s heritage and modern innovation.
The Nissan Ariya Surfwagen
Also customized by Tommy Pike Customs, the Nissan Ariya transforms Nissan’s all-new 100% electric crossover. The Surfwagon retains all the utility and functionality of an Ariya, but with a decidedly unique look and purpose. He makes one of them beach style surf cart ”, with a wooden imitation body and other accessories. A style reminiscent of the exposed wood structure of some 1930s American utility and family cars. It is also a modern reinterpretation of the large station wagons or jeeps that transported surfers to California. In addition, the Ariya Surfwagon has wheels smoothie 20 inches. Wheels with polished stainless steel center caps and whitewall tires. Surfboards suspended from custom roof racks and a revised bumper complete this decor.
Encourage personalization of electric models
Tommy Pike and his team modified the Ariya Surfwagon to meet a specific request from Nissan. For the Japanese manufacturer, this concept car should inspire owners of electric vehicles. To spark dreams, he had to inspire them to adapt their vehicles to their lifestyle. Designed to catch the eye with its faux wood vinyl and chrome body, the Surfwagon aims to provoke conversation and imagination. It shows what vehicle customization could look like in the future of electric vehicles. This is because tuning enthusiasts want to adapt their vehicles to their favorite hobby. Somewhat mixed, the result is not unanimous, but this is not Nissan’s main objective.
