Decathlon has introduced a brand new electric bike called LD 500 E. This trendy bike, intended for the city, stands out for its force sensor, a decent torque of 45 Nm and a widely controlled price.

It is clear that Decathlon is today a major player in the field of electric bicycles. The brand has a catalog with different prices, but often cheaper than the competition. In a desire to renew its offer, the French brand has lifted the veil on a brand new trendy model.
Here is the Decathlon LD 500 E, made official via press release at the end of September. Let’s start with the highlights of its technical sheet: for 1649 euros, this model is equipped with a removable battery of 504 Wh (3.1 kg) integrated directly into the aluminum frame.
At least 60 km range
Depending on the mode used – there are 3 of them – the range varies between 60 and 120 km. You will have understood: the most powerful mode logically offers the lowest range. Nevertheless, 60 kilometers is a very good theoretical range, so you don’t have to worry too much about your battery level in the assumption.
Decathlon also guarantees 500 charge cycles without loss of range, ie 30,000 km before the battery fails. And speaking of charging, you’ll have to take your troubles patiently: 7 hours in total, which is extremely long – but less damaging with considerable autonomy.

Another strong point: the presence of a torque sensor, coupled to a 250 W motor placed on the hub of the rear wheel. It’s rare to see a torque sensor on bikes this price, and that’s good news. We have another example in mind: the Nakamura E-Crossover V, signed by Intersport, was sold for 1600 euros.
As a reminder, a torque sensor makes for a more dynamic and natural ride, as the electrical assistance transmitted is proportional to the force you put on the pedals. IPX5 certified – protection against water jets – the motor has a torque of 45 Nm, which is decent for city driving.
Beautiful paraphernalia of accessories
On paper, the Decathlon LD 500 E is reassuring on the braking front given the Tektro TKD32 hydraulic disc brakes. The 28-inch anti-puncture tires have treads and reflective strips to improve your visibility. You also have to rely on an 8-speed transmission.

Urban VAE mandatory, the standard accessories are present: fenders, kickstand, rear and headlight or even a luggage carrier that can carry up to 27 kg, including a baby seat and all ELOPS luggage. On the front is a dashboard to manage the modes, including a USB socket to charge your phone.
Decathlon LD 500 E: price and availability
The small minus we could raise is the total weight: 23 kilos, which makes it a wonderful baby to carry. If you don’t have a courtyard, bicycle shed or elevator, it can be difficult to place them in your home. Of course we do not recommend letting your mount sleep outside.
Available in open frame and closed frame, and in sizes S (between 1.55 m and 1.64 m) and M (between 1.65 m and 1.74 m), the Decathlon LD 500 E is available on the official website of the brand at a price of 1649 euros – a premium on the purchase can bring this price down. The frame and handlebars have a lifetime warranty, while the electrical elements and spare parts are guaranteed for 2 years.
