The market for small city cars is clearly not in good shape, and yet some manufacturers are still marketing models of this type. This is the case of Italian start-up XEV, which is unveiling the XEV Yoyo, an electric city car whose plastic parts are fully 3D printed to reduce production costs and emissions.

With a length of 2.53 meters, a width of 1.5 meters and a height of 1.56 meters, the XEV Yoyo can sneak through the city. The wheelbase is set at 1.68 meters and the ground clearance at 15 centimeters. The small car from Turin is a featherweight, with a weight without battery of 450 kilos. This battery is quite small, with a capacity of 10.3 kWh.

The city car has a 15 kW engine, or about 20 hp. The maximum speed is set at 90 km/h, or even 75 km/h if Eco mode is activated. Transmission is on the rear wheels only.

For charging, the XEV Yoyo comes with a cable for a domestic wall outlet, or even an optional Type 2 cable. Charging time is estimated to be less than four hours. The version reserved for professionals is based on battery swap technology. The car battery is actually divided into three “safe” removable blocks, which can be easily removed.

Marketed as a heavy four-wheeler, the XEV Yoyo can be driven in France from the age of 16 with a B1 driving license. So it can be very suitable for a teenager. The price of this electric city car is set at € 15,890. It is possible to deduct from this price an ecological bonus of € 900 to obtain the Yoyo for € 14,990. The small car will be on display at the Mondial de l’Auto in Paris from October 17 to 23, 2022. Note that fifty copies of the Yoyo will be deployed in Nice, in car sharing, through the Shaary company.

What is its autonomy?

According to the Italian manufacturer XEV, the small Yoyo can travel up to 150 kilometers on a single charge and in Eco mode, with its 10.3 kWh battery. This autonomy is given for circulation in an urban environment. Outside the city, you prefer to count on a range of between 100 and 120 kilometers. The distance remains more than sufficient for a teenager who would use the Yoyo to get there and back from high school, for example. In any case, it is difficult to take the road over long distances with the Yoyo, since it is limited to 90 km / h with its 20 horses. Even 75 km/h when Eco mode is activated.

From what age can an electric four-wheeler be ridden?

You must be at least 16 years old to drive the XEV Yoyo. However, this heavy four-wheeler – it weighs 450 kilos excluding batteries – is reserved for B1 driving license holders. Obtaining this permit requires some training.

What is the price in France?

The base price of the XEV Yoyo is set at €15,890. Thanks to the zero-emission electric motorisation, the small city car benefits from an ecological bonus from the state, the amount of which rises to € 900. This brings the price of the XEV Yoyo down to € 14,990. Note that a premium version exists, it adds a 10-inch touchscreen and 15-inch alloy wheels to the basic equipment.

to summarise

This new electric city car, sold in France as a heavy four-wheeler, could appeal to teenagers aged 16 and over. Produced by the Italian manufacturer XEV, the Yoyo is a small electric city car, 2.53 meters long, 1.5 meters wide and 1.56 meters high. Shown at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, it has a 10.3 kWh battery, which gives it a range of between 100 and 150 kilometers, depending on the type of route. The power is set at 20 hp, with which it can still reach a maximum speed of 90 km/h. In terms of equipment, the Yoyo does not have to be ashamed of the competition, with LED lighting, a 7 or 10 inch screen, air conditioning, a panoramic roof, adjustable seats, electric windows and mirrors, brake discs, USB connections and ABS. His price? € 15,890, or € 14,990 after deduction of the ecological premium of € 900.
