Volvo renews its XC40 and C40 electric cars with very good surprises

Volvo is developing the XC40 and C4 Recharge range with increased power and range. And the good news, the former is eligible for an environmental bonus of a maximum of 5,000 euros at the moment. Enough to make it an excellent price-to-self ratio!

Volvo did not wait for the European Union’s decision to ban the sale of thermal cars in 2035 to develop its electrification. So much so that since September 2022, the Swedish company no longer markets a single 100% thermal model in its French catalog. But of course the company wants to go further, as it plans to go 100% electric in 2030 according to a statement released in 2021.

good price

Pending the EX90’s arrival, replacing last November’s official XC90, Volvo is currently marketing two electric models. These are the XC40 and C40 Recharge, and it’s just a coupe version of the first. Later, the range will also be enriched with the EX30, which will take the form of an affordable small SUV made in China. Which should not please the specialists, who are already wary of the invasion of Chinese cars in Europe.

But in the meantime, Volvo is really improving its cars already for sale. That’s why last December it announced some changes for its two high-altitude models, benefiting from increased power and autonomy. But after a few weeks, the brand gives us a little more detail, especially about the prices of these revised and corrected versions.

until that time, The XC40 recharge started at 45,800 euros in the entry-level Start version, while the Recharge Twin variant started at €58,050 in the middle-end Plus. According to a Volvo press release, Today the electric SUV offers an entry ticket priced at 48,950 euros In the Extended Range version. A high price, slightly offset by the existing customer discount, which brings the price down to 46,990 euros according to the component.

Then the price is exactly the same as that of the Tesla Model Y Propulsion, which allows the Scandinavian SUV to qualify for an environmental bonus of 5,000 euros. As a reminder, this is only awarded to vehicles with a purchase price of less than 47,000 euros. So, with the help of the government, The SUV is offered from 41,990 euros. On the other hand, the C40 Recharge can no longer claim it, while it starts at 54,050 euros, against 46,800 euros until then. Price currently set at 51,890 euros with the discount currently in force.

Some notable improvements

But this slight increase in the price of the two electric SUVs is not unjustified, quite the opposite. In fact, Volvo has made many improvements to its cars, starting with An increased range of about one hundred kilometers. An increase that we owe to a change in the architecture of the standard recharge version, which becomes pure push. A Recharge Twin variant is available New battery totaling 82 kWhThat is, 3 kWh more than before.

The new single-engine extended range version also enriches the range of the two SUVs. The result , The Volvo XC40 can travel between 500 and 515 kilometers Depending on the WLTP cycle while the C40 Recharge oscillates between 507 and 533 kilometres, due to a more aerodynamic silhouette. Note that the basic version retains its 67 kWh battery. Both SUVs increase their power, with the recharged version increasing from 231 to 238 bhp.

As announced by Volvo, Charging power has also been improved, with dual version starting from 150 to 200 kW. Thus, it takes only about 28 minutes to go from 10 to 80%. It gets better, even if it’s 18 minutes away from the Kia EV6, thanks to the 800-volt system. The standard recharge version always requires 34 minutes, with Power is still limited to 150 kW direct current.

Other improvements can be introduced a little later, while the brand’s models are compatible with over-the-air OTA updates. Thus, it will be possible to enjoy new features related to the infotainment system offered by Google or better performance without having to go to the garage.
